By tempering the glass its mechanical integrity can be increased so if the glass breaks, it will break into small crumbs. The tempered glass crumbs, or parts, won’t injure humans or property. The tempering process is used in glasses that are placed on sauna doors, glass railings, movable glass walls, automatic doors and other structures that require strength. A more detailed definition of the usage of tempered glass is available in the Finnish Rakentamismääräyskokoelmat document, and specifically under the part titled Käyttöturvallisuus, F2.
