Tempered safety glass

The tempering process adds mechanical strength and if the glass should break, it breaks into small roundish particles which won’t cause damage to property or humans.

Tempering a glass is a process where the raw-glass is heated to approximately 650 degrees Celsius, and then swiftly cooled back to room temperature. During this process to the surface of the glass sheet a strong compressive stressing is formed, and that adds to the strength of the glass.

Tempered glass is used on sauna doors, glass railings, movable glass walls, automatic doors and other structures where strength is needed, also in situations when the glass work will cause focused
stress areas.

In Raklas facilities in Tampere we are able to create tempered glasses in a special oven with the following dimensions:

  • Glass thicknesses from 3 to 19 millimeters
  • Minimum dimensions 100×260 millimeters
  • Maximum dimensions 2400×4800 millimeters

In Raklas facilities in Helsinki we are able to create tempered glasses in a special oven with the following dimensions:

  • Glass thicknesses from 4 to 12 millimeters
  • Minimum dimensions 100×260 millimeters
  • Maximum dimensions 2100×3600 millimeters
